Bio 2010 demonstrated despite the global malaise surrounding the investment climate companies are still making strategic investments in where they do business.
IDA had a significant presence at the exhibition along with colleagues from Enterprise Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland. Representatives from state agencies interacted heavily with delegates and reassured senior executives that Ireland was still open for business and despite the significant financial stress the country was under, Ireland was still an excellent place for multinationals to do business.
Of significance was the emerging biotech clusters in USA and Singapore and the use of novel approaches to secure small volume manufacture of initial batch sizes. IDA is forecasting that the Biologic molecules - proteins, antibodies and protein-antibody complexes will deliver a range of new drugs requiring extensive additional and new manufacturing investment.
Ireland's strategic manufacturing sites funded by IDA are shovel ready for such investments when these decisions are ready to be made.
