Ireland gets a Bio-innovate of its own

Based on the Stanford model of innovating new medical devices called Stanford BioDesign, Ireland finally has a programme of its own based in NUI Galway.

Thanks to local private donors who wish to see Ireland's medtech industry protected by holding the lifeblood of new product development at its core, BioInnovate will team up entrepreneurs, doctors and engineers into small teams who are hot-housed to review clinical needs ripe for disruptive innovation.

Although a fledgling undertaking, senior leaders who guided the Stanford model have been instrumental in designing and co-ordinating the Galway model. This, allied to the support of local large medtech companies bodes well for the future and the hope that Ireland can start medical device companies as well as support inward FDI in medtech.
